Jason Shackell named Burnley captain

Burnley manager Eddie Howe has appointed defender Jason Shackell as the club's new captain.

The 28-year-old joined the Clarets from Derby County on a four-year deal earlier this month.

"It's Jason's natural role and I think he has settled into it really well," Howe told the club's official website.

"He has everyone's respect here and I think we saw immediately what a good player he is."

Shackell skippered Burnley during their 4-1 win over Altrincham yesterday.
