Half-Time Report: Burnley, Preston North End goalless at half time

Neither Burnley nor Preston North End were able to make the breakthrough in a goalless first half at Turf Moor this afternoon.

The home side started the brighter of the two sides with George Boyd looking lively, but the Clarets were unable to turn the dominance into goals in the early going.

The visitors responded through Joe Garner on 17 minutes, and the striker's volley was deflected just over the bar.

A quick counter from Burnley saw Andre Gray tee up teammate Joey Barton, but the ex-Queens Park Rangers man slipped as he tried to shoot and the chance came to nothing with the effort drifting wide.

Sam Vokes's volley was denied by a good stop from keeper Jordan Pickford, who diverted the ball onto the crossbar with Paul Gallagher clearing the danger.
