Neil Warnock poised for Bristol City job?

Neil Warnock emerges as a contender to take the reins at troubled Championship side Bristol City.

Neil Warnock has emerged as a surprise contender for the vacant managerial position at Championship side Bristol City.

The 67-year-old, previously manager at Sheffield United, Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United and Crystal Palace, is rated at odds of 9/5 to take over at Ashton Gate following the dismissal of Steve Cotterill earlier this month.

Interim manager John Pemberton remains the frontrunner to get the job permanently after guiding the troubled side to their first win in seven league attempts in his first game in charge.

Across his managerial career, Warnock has won promotion eight times - three times to the top flight - and was most recently in caretaker charge at former side QPR.

Bristol City currently find themselves 22nd in the Championship, one point from safety with 18 games of the season left to play.
