Philipp Hofmann strike earns 10-man Brentford win at Griffin Park

Philipp Hofmann strikes deep into stoppage time to secure a 2-1 win for 10-man Brentford in their Championship clash against Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park.

Philipp Hofmann scored at the death to snatch victory for 10-man Brentford in their Championship clash against Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park this afternoon.

Nelson Oliveira had a good opportunity to put the visitors ahead when he latched on to a through ball from Jamie Ward following good work from the winger, but he was denied by a good save from David Button.

The Bees then made a mistake at the back which allowed Oliveira to seize on the ball and drive towards goal. The Portuguese raced into the box, but his low strike was well saved by Button.

Alan Judge almost punished Forest for their poor finishing in the final third when he unleashed a powerful strike at goal from the edge of the box, but his effort sailed just wide of the post.

Oliveira continued to be a thorn in the side of the home team and he almost found the back of the net when he powered a header at goal, but Button managed to palm his effort over the bar.

The Bees took the lead when Harlee Dean headed the ball from a free kick into the path of Sergi Canos and the winger made no mistake guiding his strike into the net.

Brentford were reduced to 10 men in the 71st minute as Dean was dismissed for violent conduct as he appeared to strike Jonathan Williams with his arm following a melee in the aftermath of a challenge.

Forest drew level three minutes after the dismissal when Lansbury was afforded space and time to drill an effort at goal from 20 yards and his strike beat Button's hand to find the bottom corner.

The home side pressed late to search for a winner despite their numerical disadvantage, but Canos was denied a second goal after a neat turn and strike by a low save from Dorus de Vries.

Brentford came closer still to securing the win, but James Tarkowski saw his close-range header smack off the woodwork and bounce clear.

However, there was still time for the home side to push and they were rewarded after De Vries made a good save to deny Ryan Woods, but Hofmann was on hand to poke home the rebound to steal the win in the 96th minute.

Brentford are in 11th place following their late win, while Forest reside in 18th in the table.
