Brazil legend Socrates dies

Brazilian football legend Socrates has died at the age of 57 in Sao Paulo.

He was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital with food poisoning on Friday, his wife said.

The illness was however worse than first feared and it has been reported that the Corinthians hero suffered septic shock.

Doctors were unable to remedy the complications and the 60-cap midfielder was pronounced dead in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Socrates, who played for Fiorentina in Europe, had previous spells at hospital in August because of intestinal bleeding.
