Brazil lose Rafael Cabral for London 2012

Brazil lose keeper for Olympics

Brazil's preparations for London 2012 have suffered a major blow with news that first-choice goalkeeper Rafael Cabral has been ruled out.

Santos keeper Cabral will miss the men's football tournament after suffering an elbow injury in training.

Brazil team doctor Jose Luis Runco told Globo Esporte: "He suffered a blow to the elbow and when we examined it he was in pain and had little ability to move.

"For the position he plays, as a goalkeeper, and the fact that during the Olympics we have only 18 players and two goalkeepers, we had no other solution."

Rafael will be flown back to Brazil for further treatment and replaced by AC Milan youngster Gabriel.
