Borussia Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski banned for three matches

Lewandowski banned for three matches

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has been banned for three matches for being sent off against Hamburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was shown a straight red card for his altercation with Rafael van der Vaart after the half-hour mark, as the German champions went on to lose the game 4-1 at home.

The German federation's disciplinary commission has now banned Lewandowski for three domestic matches, meaning that the Poland international will sit out Dortmund's clashes against Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Monchengladbach and Hannover.

Dortmund have stated that they will appeal against the suspension, with sporting director Michael Zorc saying that they consider the ban "too harsh" and will ask "for a hearing".
