Report: Grant Hanley valued at £6m

Blackburn Rovers have reportedly informed Newcastle United that it will cost £6m for the Magpies to sign Grant Hanley in this summer's transfer window.

It is understood that recently-relegated Newcastle have already had two bids rejected for the centre-back, who came through the youth system at Blackburn and has 200 first-team appearances to his name.

According to Sky Sports News, Blackburn have placed a £6m figure on the head of the 24-year-old in a bid to hold off interest from St James' Park.

"Number one, I don't want to be selling Grant Hanley," Blackburn boss Owen Coyle recently told the Northern Echo. "But obviously we can't stop clubs from admiring our players. It's the same with me. I admire players at other clubs and you go after them.

"But what I would also say is about Grant Hanley's valuation as a player - I hold him in very high esteem. I think he is a very, very good player. And I think it's fair to say, in my opinion, [Newcastle] are nowhere near the valuation of Grant Hanley. I don't want to lose him."

Hanley has also earned 23 caps for the Scotland national team.
