England call to price Jack Butland out of Southampton move

Butland priced out of Southampton move

Southampton are said to be concerned that the price of Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland will now be too high following the youngster's shock inclusion in England's Euro 2012 squad.

Butland was drafted in to Roy Hodgson's 23-man party as a replacement for injured Norwich City stopper John Ruddy in May.

Saints scouts watched the 19-year-old three times during his loan spell at Cheltenham Town last season.

The Premier League newcomers were reportedly hopeful of bringing Butland to St Mary's this summer in order to provide competition for current number one Kelvin Davis.

However, they now fear that his stock may have risen too high for him to be considered a realistic proposition, according to The Mirror.

Manchester United are also rumoured to be interested in the six-time England Under-21 international's signature.

Butland has yet to make his first-team debut for Birmingham.
