Birmingham City return for Fulham defender Dan Burn 'unlikely'

Birmingham City's chances of re-signing Dan Burn on loan take a hit as Rene Meulensteen praises his display for parent club Fulham in the FA Cup.

The possibility of Dan Burn being allowed to re-join Birmingham City on loan looks less likely after Fulham head coach Rene Meulensteen praised his performance against Norwich City in the FA Cup last night.

Burn, 21, made 28 appearances for Birmingham during the opening half of the season before returning to parent club Birmingham this month.

He recently admitted that he wasn't sure where he would be come the end of January, and Meulensteen's post-match comments suggest that he may still be with Fulham.

"Him staying here now is definitely something we're going to review, definitely," said Meulensteen.

"He's matured a lot in Birmingham where he had a very good loan spell and next to Brede Hangeland he looked extremely comfortable."

Burn was part of a defence that kept a clean sheet against Norwich last night in progressing to the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they will play League One side Sheffield United.
