Gary Rowett: 'Birmingham City likely to end Kees Luijckx interest'

Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett reveals that the club will not be signing trialist Kees Luijckx.

Birmingham City have decided against signing free agent defender Kees Luijckx after he spent time on trial with the Championship club.

The 29-year-old Dutchman impressed Blues boss Gary Rowett in some areas, but he has not earned himself a contract at St Andrew's.

"He came in and did quite well in the Under-21 game, but I just felt as though I almost needed to be blown away by someone coming from Europe, that with one injury I would need to guarantee they could handle the Championship," the Birmingham Mail quotes Rowett as saying.

Luijckx is a free agent after leaving Greek Super League side Niki Volos in December.
