Birmingham boss Garry Monk lands FA charge

Birmingham manager Garry Monk has been charged by the Football Association with using abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official.

The alleged incident took place after Maikel Kieftenbeld was sent off in the 65th minute of Tuesday’s clash with Brentford and Monk was also dismissed by referee Tim Robinson.

He has until 6pm on October 8 to respond to the charge.

Monk was incensed after the dismissal of Kieftenbeld and stated he will appeal the dismissal.

He told the press following the 1-1 draw at Griffin Park: “It happened right in front of me and it was completely the wrong decision.

“I thought the opposition player would be booked for feigning injury so to see a red card was a complete shock.

“After 23 years in football I know something when I see it. It was a coming-together that didn’t warrant the reaction it got.”
