Xabi Alonso: 'Arturo Vidal would be great signing for Bayern Munich'

Xabi Alonso throws his weight behind Bayern Munich's pursuit of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, who is said to be closing on a move to the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has said that he believes Arturo Vidal "is just the type of player" that the German champions need.

Vidal is expected to swap Juventus for the Allianz Arena this summer, with the two clubs reportedly agreeing a £28m deal.

Alonso's own place in the team could be under threat from the Chilean, but the Spaniard has said that he would welcome the competition.

"Vidal is a great player. He is just the type of player we need at Bayern. He has shown over the years that he is a true winner, both at Juventus and with Chile's national side," Alonso told reporters.

"Plus he has plenty of Bundesliga experience already, which is also quite important. I wouldn't say he is an aggressive player, but he is quite forceful. He is very complete and can play in a number of positions.

"We will welcome Vidal with open arms if the transfer does happen. You always want to be surrounded by the best players. But it is obviously not official yet."

Vidal spent four years in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen from 2007 to 2011.
