The Germany international came off the bench after 70 minutes in Bayern Munich’s 1-1 home draw with Freiburg.

Bayern Munich head coach Niko Kovac appeared to be publicly criticised by Thomas Muller’s wife during the 1-1 draw with Freiburg.

Kovac opted to leave forward Muller on the bench for Saturday’s Bundesliga match before bringing him on for James Rodriguez in the 71st minute with the game goalless.

The substitution prompted Lisa Muller to take a picture of her husband receiving instructions from Kovac and post it on Instagram alongside the caption: “More than 70 minutes until he had flash of genius”.

The social media post was subsequently deleted.

According to German newspaper Bild, Kovac had “nothing” to say on the matter during a post-match interview with Sky, while Muller played down the incident.

“I think that was out of emotion. She just loves me,” said Germany international Muller.

Bayern took an 80th minute lead at the Allianz Arena through Serge Gnabry, before conceding an equaliser to Lucas Holer a minute from time.

The draw leaves the German champions without a win from their last four home matches in all competitions and they are four points behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund.
