Half-Time Report: Bayern Munich in control against 10-man Shakhtar Donetsk

Bayern in control against 10-man Shakhtar

Bayern Munich have opened up a 2-0 lead in the second leg of their Champions League tie against 10-man Shakhtar Donetsk at the Allianz Arena this evening.

It did not take the visitors long to hand Bayern the advantage as they were reduced to 10 men in the third minute when Oleksandr Kucher brought down Mario Gotze in the box.

The foul also handed the German champions an early opportunity from the penalty spot, which Thomas Muller stepped up to take, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Robert Lewandowski had a chance to help double the lead shortly after when he pulled the ball back for Arjen Robben, but the Dutchman could not stretch to turn the ball in.

The Polish striker came close himself midway through the period when he was left unmarked at the back post, but his header from a Rafinha cross came back off the post.

Jerome Boateng did manage to make it two for the hosts before the break when a Lewandowski effort was parried clear, leaving the midfielder to pounce on the rebound, smashing it into the bottom corner.
