Javier Hernandez refuses to celebrate Lionel Messi's injury

Hernandez: 'Injuries are always bad'

Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez has refused to take the positives from Lionel Messi's recent injury.

Messi, who injured his knee ligaments at the weekend, will miss both of Barcelona's upcoming Champions League games against Bayer, including Tuesday's meeting at Camp Nou.

The absence of Messi improves the German side's chances of securing a positive result, but Hernandez has said that he will never take any pleasure from a fellow professional suffering an injury.

"Messi's injury? It can't be good to celebrate any injury. There's nothing more important than your health," Hernandez told Marca.

"In life and in any profession what we all want is to be healthy. 'Bad luck', I thought when it happened. It's always bad when a player gets injured. Seeing another human being suffer is never a nice thing. You can't take any pleasure from it. Health is the most important thing in life."

Hernandez has scored twice for Bayer since joining the Bundesliga side from Manchester United in the summer.
