Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde suggests that experienced midfielder Ivan Rakitic could leave the club this summer.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has suggested that Ivan Rakitic could leave the Spanish champions before the transfer window slams shut at the start of September.

The Croatia international was linked with a move to Manchester United ahead of the closing of the English market, while Inter Milan have also been credited with a summer interest.

Rakitic recently played down suggestions that he could leave Camp Nou, but Valverde has refused to guarantee that the 2018 World Cup finalist will be staying at the club.

"He is very important for us. His work is there. Right now, I don't know if he will stay. I count on him as I have. In principle, nothing makes me think that I won't be able to count on him," Valverde told reporters.

Rakitic scored a late winner as Barca recorded a 2-1 victory over Napoli in their last pre-season game on Wednesday night.
