Johan Cruyff bemoans Barcelona's failure to sign Toni Kroos

Johan Cruyff has expressed his disappointment at the fact that Barcelona allowed Toni Kroos to join rivals Real Madrid during the summer.

Barca were linked with the German international when it became known that he was to leave Bayern Munich, but the 24-year-old eventually signed on at the Bernabeu for a reported £18m.

Speaking to Marca about his former club's failure to sign Kroos, Cruyff said: "I can't understand it. I know that Kroos had an affinity for Barcelona and could have gone there. I don't know what happened, but he definitely liked the club."

Kroos has made 17 appearances for Los Blancos in all competitions this season, but he is yet to score a goal.
