Dani Alves: 'Neymar must be brave and join Paris Saint-Germain'

Paris Saint-Germain full-back Dani Alves says that he still 'speaks to Neymar every day', as he urges his former Barcelona teammate to join him in the French capital.

Dani Alves has called on former Barcelona teammate Neymar to make the 'brave and selfish' decision to join him at Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The 25-year-old emerged as a shock transfer target for the Parisians earlier this month, despite having a £199m release clause in his Camp Nou contract.

Speculation has only intensified in the past few days, with reports on Saturday suggesting that Neymar could be a PSG player as early as next week after agreeing personal terms on a five-year deal.

Alves recently denied claims that he has been persuading his Brazilian compatriot to join him in the French capital, but the full-back has made it known that he would welcome the record-breaking move should it go through.

"I speak with him every day, but not always about football," he told reporters. "I try to keep him calm because in these times when you listen to people from all over you can go crazy.

"You have to be selfish because the clubs don't think of you once you don't produce results, as I am an example of. I told him one thing, which is to be brave, as this world is for the brave.

"Decisions are for the brave and I am the bravest, deciding to leave Barcelona and Juventus. He must now make a decision to keep progressing. I just want my friend to be happy wherever he is, although if that is here then that's obviously better."

Neymar has enjoyed an impressive pre-season campaign to date, setting up another two goals in Barca's 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the early hours of Sunday morning.
