Joachim Low insists Marc-Andre ter Stegen will get chances with Germany

Germany head coach Joachim Low insists that Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will get the chance to play for the national team ahead of Manuel Neuer.

Joachim Low has insisted that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will eventually get his chance to play for Germany ahead of Manuel Neuer.

Barcelona's first-choice shot-stopper is widely considered to be one of the finest goalkeepers in the world, while the Bayern Munich stalwart is perceived to have declined from his best.

However, the 33-year-old continues to keep his place between the sticks ahead of his younger compatriot, much to Ter Stegen's frustration.

Low has urged the 27-year-old to remain calm, insisting that he will be given the opportunity to shine and claim Neuer's place.

"We all can just be happy to have two world-class goalkeepers with Neuer and Ter Stegen. And Kevin Trapp or Bernd Leno are also capable of outstanding performances," Low said to Bild.

"We fully understand his disappointment but it's like that - only one can play.

"We wanted to let him play in June but unfortunately he was slightly injured back then. And Manu has played very good games for us recently. He is our captain."

Neuer has played in all five of Germany's Euro 2020 qualifying games so far, keeping three clean sheets.
