Cafu: 'Neymar should not be Brazil captain'

Barcelona forward Neymar is not the right candidate to captain Brazil, according to former Selecao defender Cafu.

Former Brazil international Cafu has said that he does not believe Neymar should be captain of the South American nation.

The Barcelona attacker, who has scored 44 times in 65 games for his country, took the armband last summer following the appointment of Dunga.

Cafu, 45, has lavished praise on Brazil's "focal point" Neymar, but has claimed that the 23-year-old is "not a born leader".

"His personality is designed to play football and enjoy himself with the ball. He is not a born leader," Cafu, who is the most capped player in the history of Brazilian international football, told Sport TV.

"Neymar should be left to play football. This is not a criticism of Neymar, lots of other huge stars have not been captains.

"Neymar is our focal point, our idol, our playmaker. In the last ten years I haven't seen a player like him, his technical abilities are undeniable."

Neymar missed the latter stages of this summer's Copa America after being sent off in the group stages.
