How Atletico Madrid could line up against Barcelona

How Atletico Madrid could line up against Barcelona

Atletico Madrid are expected to have key centre-back Jose Gimenez available for Saturday afternoon's huge La Liga contest away to Barcelona.

Gimenez had to be replaced in the latter stages of the 1-0 win over Elche on May 1, but the Uruguay international is likely to overcome the minor issue to feature in the starting XI against Ronald Koeman's side.

As a result, Atletico, who lead the division, might have just one player missing for this weekend's contest, with Brazilian defender Renan Lodi on the sidelines due to a muscular problem.

Head coach Diego Simeone has a number of decisions to make, and it seems likely that he will select a 3-5-2 formation, which is also expected to be the case for Barca.

Koke started on the bench against Elche but should be back in the side here, while Angel Correa might get the nod over Joao Felix to feature alongside leading scorer Luis Suarez in attack.

Geoffrey Kondogbia's performance last time out has certainly given Simeone something to think about, but he might just drop down to the bench for this game alongside the likes of Felix and Saul Niguez.

A late setback for Gimenez would open the door for Felipe to feature as part of a back three, but there are not expected to be many surprises in the away side's XI on Saturday afternoon.

Atletico possible starting lineup: Oblak; Savic, Gimenez, Hermoso; Trippier, Llorente, Koke, Lemar, Carrasco; Suarez, Correa
