Barcelona striker Pedro believes that Spain are favourites to retain their European Championship title.

Barcelona striker Pedro has claimed that Spain are the favourites to win Euro 2012.

The defending champions begin their campaign with a Group C clash against Italy on Sunday.

However, the 24-year-old also believes that the Azzurri could go far in the tournament.

"We have always had pressure because we have the best players in the world," he told reporters.

"It is clear that we are favourites, but there are great teams, starting with Italy, who will surely make things hard for us.

"The path towards the title is long and complicated. We have to go step by step and we hope that we can win."

Spain and Italy are joined by Croatia and the Republic of Ireland in the group stages.
