Atletico Madrid to sign Sergio Canales this summer?

Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering a summer swoop for Real Betis midfielder Sergio Canales.

The 28-year-old, who turned out for Real Madrid between 2010 and 2012, was impressive for Betis during the 2018-19 campaign, scoring nine times in 46 appearances for the Spanish side.

According to COPE, Atletico boss Diego Simeone is keen to land the midfielder ahead of the 2019-20 campaign as the Argentine rebuilds his squad.

Canales has a contract with Betis until the summer of 2022, but it is understood that there is a £35.6m buy-out in the Spaniard's deal, which Atletico are prepared to pay to secure his services.

The two-time Spain international, who started his professional career with Racing Santander, joined Betis last summer after four years with Real Sociedad.
