Atletico Madrid appeal Juanfran ban

Atletico Madrid have launched an appeal over the yellow card handed to right-back Juanfran in their 1-0 league win over Malaga at the weekend.

As it stands, the Spanish international will be banned for Saturday's top-of-the-table clash with Barcelona after picking up a booking - his fifth of the season - in the second period.

"Juan Francisco Torres Belen was booked in the 53rd minute for the following reason: bringing down an opponent while challenging for the ball," read a statement from referee Jose Antonio Texeira.

Should the competition committee fail to overturn the decision, then Atletico boss Diego Simeone must decide between youngster Javier Manquillo and Toby Alderweireld for the right-back position at the Vicente Calderon.
