Atletico Madrid forward Adrian believes that his team can make significant progress this season after making an impressive start.

Atletico Madrid forward Adrian has declared that he is delighted with the club's form in the early weeks of the season.

Adrian linked up with Radamel Falcao to devastating effect as Atletico swept aside Chelsea 4-0 in the Uefa Super Cup in Monaco.

The 24-year-old thinks that his team can look to close the gap on Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona if they can maintain their promising from.

He told ABC.es: "The truth is that the whole team did really well against Chelsea, but now the important thing is that people rest and come back with their batteries recharged.

"You have to go little by little, as we have always done. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been at a high level, but we have to look at that, our team, and make this the best year possible.

"I'm very happy here. I have a few years left at Atletico Madrid. It's very important to continue to work every day, and be excited at every practice and every game."

Atletico resume their La Liga campaign after the international break at home to Rayo Vallecano on Monday, September 17.
