Atletico Madrid have taken a 2-0 lead against Getafe at half time in their La Liga clash.

In what eventually turned out to be a half of few concrete chances, Tiago could have put the home side in the lead as early as the third minute with a header from close range, but his effort went wide.

Then on 13 minutes Arda Turan tested Getafe goalkeeper Miguel Moya with a shot from outside the box.

The opening goal of the first period came in the 26th minute when Raul Garcia headed home Koke's delivery from close range.

Then with eight minutes left for the half-time interval, Alberto Lopo inadvertently put the ball inside his own net to double Atletico's advantage.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when they were reduced to 10 men on 42 minutes as Valera was sent off for two bookable offences.
