Atletico GO vs. Coritiba - prediction, team news, lineups

Atletico Goianiense will bid for their first league win of the season when they host Coritiba on Saturday in the Brasileiro.

The visitors, meanwhile, have started the campaign strongly and are currently sixth in the table, just three points off leaders Corinthians.

Match preview

Following a strong campaign last season where Goianiense qualified for the Copa Sudamericana, this year has been anything but good.

They started the season with a 4-0 defeat to Bragantino and have lost two more games since then, as well as three draws.

Goianiense are lacking at both ends of the pitch, with the worst record in the league for either stat.

Saturday's hosts have scored just three goals in the opening six games, while in that time, they have conceded a whopping 10.

Therefore, that is not a good mix for any side in order to have a decent campaign and they are now next to bottom, with only Fortaleza having a worse start.

Goianiense will need to turn it around soon, otherwise that three-point gap to safety will only increase and their task does not get any easier, with the arrival of Coritiba.

The visitors have currently scored the most league goals this season, so they will be licking their lips at the thought of the Goianiense defence.

He may be 36 years of age, but Leo Gamalho has been exceptional up front for Coritiba with four goals to his name this season.

However, their record against Goianiense is not the best, with a 3-1 loss in their last encounter and only one victory since 2018.

Nonetheless, Coritiba are still the firm favourites for Saturday and could move into the top four with a positive result on the weekend.

Team News

Goianiense will still be without right-back Dudu, who is not expected to return until later this month following an ankle injury.

Other than that, the hosts have a clean bill of health and usually line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Diego Churin leading the forward line.

Coritiba, meanwhile, are still without the injured trio of Igor Paixao (thigh), Thonny Anderson (foot) and Natanael (leg).

Nonetheless, the visitors seem to have coped just fine without those players with Matheus Alexandre, Regis and Gamalho all putting in solid performances.

Atletico Goianiense possible starting lineup:

Ronaldo; Havner, Edson, Ramon, Jefferson; Freitas, Baralhas; Shaylon, Rato, Pereira; Churin

Coritiba possible starting lineup:

Santana; Alexandre, Henrique, Castan, Egidio; Andrey, Farias; Daniel, Regis, Manga; Gamalho

We say: Atletico Goianiense 0-3 Coritiba

Coritiba have hit a purple patch in front of goal recently and pair that up with the league's worst defence, then there is not really much of a comparison. With an attack led by Leo Gamalho, that should prove to be too strong for Goianiense, who will still be searching for that first league win of the season.
