Atalanta fight back to hold Palermo

Atalanta BC have come from behind to earn a 3-3 draw against Palermo in a thrilling Serie A match this afternoon.

The visitors took the lead in the sixth minute when Luca Rigoni latched onto Franco Vazquez's header and fired a volley into the roof of the net.

Vazquez added a second for Palermo nine minutes later with a chipped effort from range that left Marco Sportiello with no chance.

Five minutes before the break, Atalanta were given the chance to pull a goal back when Ezequiel Munoz gave away a penalty for a foul on German Denis.

Denis stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and the Argentine made no mistake with a powerful finish past Stefano Sorrentino.

Palermo quickly restored their two-goal lead as Vazquez arrived at the front post to drill home Paulo Dybala's low cross in first-half stoppage time.

Atalanta clawed another goal back 10 minutes into the second half, as Maximiliano Moralez fired in a loose ball from close range.

Luca Cigarini came within inches of scoring a third for Atalanta, but his powerful effort crashed against the post.

The hosts did manage to draw level in the 76th minute as Denis slotted home from close range, after Empoli had failed to clear Boukary Drame's cross.

Vazquez came close to scoring a fourth for Palermo when his shot was pushed behind by Sportiello, but it was as close as either side came to a winner as the points were shared.
