Report: Aston Villa make move for Joe Bennett

Aston Villa are lining up a bid for Middlesbrough left-back Joe Bennett, according to reports.

The 22-year-old is a product of the Middlesbrough youth academy. He has made over 90 appearances for the club and has represented England at Under-21 level.

According to Sky Sports News a number of clubs have been tracking Bennett's progress.

It is thought that Villa manager Paul Lambert will move for Bennett after being knocked back in his attempts to sign Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich Town.

Bennett has not played this season due to injury but is expected to make a comeback for Middlesbrough in the League Cup tonight.
