Paul Lambert confirms planned reunion with Grant Holt

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert confirms that he is interested in signing his former striker and captain at Norwich City, Grant Holt, on loan from Wigan Athletic.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has revealed that he is interested in signing former collaborator Grant Holt on loan from Wigan Athletic.

The 32-year-old striker played a huge role in getting Norwich City promoted back to the Premier League, and then keeping them there under Lambert's management.

He left Carrow Road at the end of last season to join Wigan on a three-year contract, but has scored only twice for the Latics and reports this week suggested that he will undergo a Villa medical on Tuesday.

With Libor Kozak missing for the rest of the campaign, Lambert is in need of forward reinforcements, but also pointed to Holt's experience and character as reasons why he is keen to link up with him again.

"There's things going on with a few and we'll try to get people in, he told Sky Sports News after the 2-1 defeat by Arsenal.

"I know Grant from my Norwich days, he was absolutely brilliant for us. It's a couple of years later down the line, so we'll see."

Asked whether it is experience that he is looking to sign, the Scot replied: "There is that, plus he's a proper man."

Holt netted 70 goals in 130 appearances over a three-year spell with Lambert's Canaries.
