Rudy Gestede: 'I will fire Aston Villa to safety'

Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede insists that he can handle the responsibility of scoring the goals needed to keep struggling Villa in the Premier League.

Rudy Gestede has vowed to score the goals that Aston Villa need to stay in the Premier League following a worrying start to the season.

The towering striker, signed from Blackburn Rovers in the summer, bagged a brace at Anfield on Saturday but it was not enough to prevent a 3-2 Liverpool victory.

Nevertheless, he now has four goals - three in the league - and Gestede wants the responsibility of preserving their top-flight status, with Villa 18th in the table after winning four points from 21.

"That's my job - to score," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror. "I will take the responsibility. I want to score the goals that keep Aston Villa in the Premier League.

"If you are a striker, you have to score goals. If you don't, it's your fault.

"It's good that I have now scored four goals, but it's not a good feeling when you score two goals and you lose."

Gestede cost the West Midlands side a reported £6m.
