Ashley Westwood excited ahead of the new season

Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood is confident that the club can build on last season and is looking forward to the new campaign.

Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood is excited ahead of the new Premier League season.

Villa finished 15th last season after battling relegation throughout the campaign, and the 23-year-old believes that they are stronger as a result.

"It's a really exciting season in prospect," he told the club's official website.

"The team came through a lot last season and we feel like we've progressed together.

"We're also stronger as a squad with the signings the gaffer has made this summer and everyone is looking forward to the new season, and can't wait to get started."

Villa kick off their campaign with a trip to Arsenal on August 17.
