Chris Sutton: 'Fabian Delph not good enough for England'

Chris Sutton claims that Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph is not good enough to play for England.

Former Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton has claimed that Fabian Delph is not good enough to play for England.

The Villa midfielder has won three caps for the Three Lions, with his debut coming against Norway in September.

However, Sutton believes that England manager Roy Hodgson is lacking quality options to select from, particularly in midfield.

"People talk about changing the manager but Roy Hodgson can only work with what is available to him," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"I don't think there are enough good English players and the current England team is underwhelming.

"In midfield, they are toying with players to replace Lampard and Gerrard and bringing in the likes of Delph who, to me, isn't an England player."

Delph was not selected for the England squad to face Slovenia and Scotland this week.
