Pre-season friendlies round-up

Brett Holman scored on his Aston Villa debut to hand Paul Lambert's side a 2-1 victory from their pre-season encounter against Burton this afternoon.

League Two side Burton took an early lead courtesy of Robbie Weir, before the scores were levelled just before the break when Marcus Holness put through his own net.

The match looked to be heading for a draw until Australia international Holman claimed a winner in the 83rd minute.

Elsewhere, Simon Church scored a hat-trick as Reading beat AFC Wimbledon 7-0, while Everton won 4-1 away at Morecambe in Jim Bentley's testimonial.

There was also a convincing 3-0 win for Sam Allardyce's West Ham United away at League Two side Southend United.

Ashley Barnes netted three times during Brighton & Hove Albion's 5-0 win over Maidstone and Coventry City went three better by scoring eight without reply against Hinckley United.
