Lambert: Villa is a "great club"

Paul Lambert has described Aston Villa as a "great club" following his dismissal from his role as manager earlier this year.

Tim Sherwood was appointed as his successor last month after the club dropped into the Premier League relegation zone, ending Lambert's 32-month stint at the club.

The 45-year-old told BBC Football Focus: "I don't have any bad things [to say] about Aston Villa. It's a brilliant football club as everybody knows.

"I came in at a really tough time and obviously when the financial reports came out the losses are way down now. From my point of view the club's in a much healthier position than when I first went in there.

"It's a great club, great people I've left behind, good people I've left behind. There's times when you look back when you think maybe I should have done that better or different, but I've got nothing but good things about the club."

Villa won just 34 of their 115 matches during Lambert's spell in charge.
