Marshall pleased by Villa progress

Aston Villa caretaker coach Scott Marshall has praised the side for putting in a "good performance" to beat Leicester City in the FA Cup.

The Villans, who had new manager Tim Sherwood watching on from the stands at Villa Park, beat the Foxes 2-1 on Sunday to make it through to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Villa will find out who they will meet in the last eight when the draw is made tomorrow night.

"The game was great today," Marshall told BBC Sport. "The boys produced a good performance. The most important thing was the energy and the togetherness was good.

"The determination was always there to see the game out. Leicester threw some bodies forward, they wanted to get through, obviously it's a local game as well."

Villa continue their fight for Premier League survival on Saturday when they entertain Stoke City, with Sherwood expected to take charge after being confirmed as Paul Lambert's successor on Saturday.
