How Aston Villa could line up against Derby County

Sports Mole looks at how Aston Villa could line up against Derby County in the Championship playoff final.

Aston Villa will be looking to end a three-year exile from the Premier League when they face Derby County in the Championship playoff final on Monday.

Villa will enter the match full of confidence having won both of the Championship meetings between the two teams this season, triumphing 3-0 at home and 4-0 in the away clash.

Dean Smith's side earned a spot in the final courtesy of overcoming West Bromwich Albion on penalties.

A terrific end to the season saw Villa finish three points inside the top six and are considered by many to be the favourites for the clash at Wembley.

Smith now has a huge decision to make when it comes to picking his XI. With that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how Villa could line up in the match dubbed the richest game in football.

Out: Orjan Nyland (Achilles)

Orjan Nyland is Villa's only first-team absentee heading into the match, meaning that Jed Steer will once again be selected between the sticks.

On-loan Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe limped off in the second leg of Villa's semi-final against West Brom but is expected to be fit, with Tyrone Mings - who is on loan from Bournemouth - taking the other centre-back position.

Ahmed Elmohamady and Neil Taylor are also certain to start at the back, as are Jack Grealish and John McGinn in the middle of the park.

Perhaps Smith's biggest call will come in the defensive midfield position as he picks between Glenn Whelan and Conor Hourihane, with the former currently being tipped to start.

Anwar El Ghazi is certain to be one of the supports to 26-goal Tammy Abraham and Albert Adomah could feature on the other side with Andre Green struggling to make an impression against the Baggies.

That said, Jonathan Kodjia is another alternative if Smith wants more of a goal threat.
