Arsene Wenger: 'Jack Wilshere on course for World Cup'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tells England boss Roy Hodgson that Jack Wilshere should be fit for the World Cup this summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told England boss Roy Hodgson that Jack Wilshere should be fit for the World Cup this summer.

The Gunners ace has been sidelined since picking up an injury on international duty with the Three Lions back in March.

Wilshere is expected to return to fitness in time for his club's final Premier League game of the season, along with the FA Cup final a week later, but Wenger has stressed the importance of easing the midfielder back into action ahead of his international commitments in June.

"I have spoken to Roy about that and Roy looks to be very keen to take him," Wenger told Sky Sports News.

"I just re-assured him that normally he would be fit if we don't have any setbacks with him. I don't want to rush his fitness. If he wants to come back he needs to be fully fit, for that I believe it is very important that we don't rush him.

"We want to do the basic work on his stamina so he can support the demands of the Premier League and the World Cup."

The 22-year-old has played 42 times for club and country so far this season.
