Pires: 'Vardy should step up to Arsenal'

Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has claimed that Jamie Vardy would be making a "step up" by leaving Leicester City and joining the Gunners.

The Foxes forward, who is currently in France with England for Euro 2016, has reportedly been the subject of a bid from the North London club.

Pires believes that Vardy's potential move to the Emirates Stadium is a sign that boss Arsene Wenger is focusing on strengthening his squad ahead of the 2016-17 season.

The 42-year-old told the Daily Mail: "There is no reason why it couldn't work out for Vardy. He scored a lot of goals in the Premier League last season and is now known around the world.

"He has the ability, comes across as very hard-working which Arsenal like, and he's a great finisher. There's a lot more pressure with playing for a big club, so it will be a step up."

Vardy, 29, scored 24 league goals last season as he helped Leicester to a surprise Premier League title win.
