Arsenal 'step up new goalkeeper search amid Bernd Leno injury fears'

Arsenal 'step up new goalkeeper search'

Arsenal are supposedly stepping up their search for a new goalkeeper amid concerns over the length of Bernd Leno's injury layoff.

The German shotstopper has not featured for the Gunners since suffering a knee strain in Arsenal's second game back following the restart, with Leno colliding with Brighton & Hove Albion's Neal Maupay back in June.

Emiliano Martinez has deputised in between the sticks in Leno's absence, and while the Argentine has produced a string of impressive performances, Mikel Arteta supposedly wants to make contingency plans for the start of the new season.

According to The Sun, Arsenal have requested further tests on Leno's injury and are keen to sign a new shotstopper to act as cover for Martinez in time for the 2020-21 campaign.

Matt Macey is another option in goal for Arteta, but the 25-year-old has only ever made two appearances for the Gunners first team and did not play a single game for Arsenal during the most recent season.
