Siewert will seek advice from former boss Wagner in bid to keep Huddersfield up

The new Huddersfield boss intends to talk to his fellow German in the next week.

Jan Siewert will turn to former Huddersfield boss David Wagner for help in his bid to keep the club in the Premier League.

Siewert replaced Wagner last month and will take charge of his third game for Huddersfield at home against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Terriers are 13 points adrift at the foot of the table with 13 games remaining, but Siewert insisted he has not given up and intends to pick the brains of his fellow German.

"Yep, he's been on holiday and I will talk to him," Siewert said. "He has been on holiday, so we agreed to phone in the next week.

"He did a great job here. That's why I want to chat with him and we will do this next week and that's good for me."

Wagner departed by mutual consent and the gap between Huddersfield and safety has widened by two points since Siewert's arrival following defeats to Everton and Chelsea.

The Terriers' announced this week that owner/chairman Dean Hoyle is well on the road to a full recovery following pancreatitis and Siewert agreed that has lifted the mood at the club.

"Definitely, he's a great chairman," Siewert said, while the 36-year-old denied he has already got one eye on the Sky Bet Championship for next season.

"I won't agree at all as long as it's mathematically possible, everything is possible and I still believe," he said.

When asked why, the former Borussia Dortmund II boss added: "I think the way we work. Simple as that.

"My thoughts just concern this season. It's just game, game, game, game."

Huddersfield's last win against Arsenal was in 1971, 11 years before Siewert was born, and they will head to the Emirates Stadium in search of their first Premier League win since November.

Siewert's cause has not been helped by news winger Isaac Mbenza has been ruled out for up to six weeks due to a calf injury and defender Chris Lowe has been struggling with illness.

But midfielder Jonathan Hogg (back) and defender Erik Durm (foot) returned to full training this week and could be in contention.

Striker Karlan Grant, signed from Charlton for an undisclosed fee last week, stepped off the bench in the 5-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge and could make his full debut against Arsenal.
