Bob Wilson "disappointed" with Robin van Persie's Arsenal departure

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson has expressed his "anger" at Robin van Persie's decision to abandon the Emirates for Manchester United.

The 29-year-old, who has been on international duty with the Netherlands this week, is expected to seal his move to Old Trafford in the next day or so after the Red Devils agreed a fee with the Gunners for the prolific frontman.

"I am disappointed, bordering on a little bit of anger almost, as Robin was made captain and done a fantastic job," Wilson told BBC Radio 4.

"It is difficult for someone like me who has an Arsenal gun sealed to his chest, not just to pat on the shirts.

"I read all his programme notes about the pride of being Arsenal captain, then a year later he leaves one great club for another great club. I'm taking the stance of the 'the king is dead, long live the king'. Thank you Robin and goodbye."

Van Persie, who spent eight years with Arsenal, was named the PFA's Player of the Year following his prolific term in front of goal last season.
