Arsene Wenger: 'Chelsea should have dealt with Mark Clattenburg privately'

Wenger blasts Chelsea's conduct

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hit out at Chelsea for their conduct regarding the complaint made to the Football Association about referee Mark Clattenburg.

The Champions League winners lodged a formal complaint to the English governing body after it was alleged that Clattenburg had used "inappropriate language" while speaking to Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel during Chelsea's 3-2 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

"I have an explanation with the referee at the end of the game or another day, rather than going public with little proof," said Wenger. "I'm not in favour of making these things public."

Clattenburg is also being investigated by the Metropolitan Police after it was alleged that the referee called Mikel a "monkey" after booking him for dissent.
