Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits being thrashed by Liverpool "hurt"

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger suggests that the team's 4-0 defeat to Liverpool earlier in the season will "hurt" for many years to come.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has indicated that the team's defeat to Liverpool earlier in the season will "hurt" him for the 'rest of his life'.

The Gunners were roundly criticised by pundits and fans alike for whimpering to a 4-0 loss at Anfield in August.

On Friday evening, Arsenal will try to put things right when they host Liverpool at the Emirates.

When asked by the London Evening Standard where that crushing result ranked, Wenger said: "Well, when you have such a long career as I have, you have some defeats unfortunately that hurt you for the rest of your life.

"I believe what is interesting in football is you always have a time to make up for it. When you can put things right, do it. So, let's focus on what is in front of us and turn up on Friday night with a completely different performance."

Liverpool are better positioned in the Premier League table than Arsenal as they currently sit fourth, but Wenger's men are only one point adrift heading into Friday's showdown.
