Per Mertesacker demands Tottenham Hotspur response from wounded Arsenal

Per Mertesacker demands that Arsenal forget about their Bayern Munich nightmare and focus on beating Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming North London derby.

Per Mertesacker has urged Arsenal not to let any Champions League disappointment derail their Premier League title bid as they look to bounce back in Sunday's visit of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners lost 5-1 at Bayern Munich on Wednesday in a defeat which leaves Arsene Wenger's side needing two victories in their remaining Group F outings if they are to reach the last 16.

In contrast, Arsenal sit level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table ahead of this weekend's North London derby, and Mertesacker says that there is no time for licking wounds.

"We will learn a lot from this game, we must learn a lot and we have to play better against Tottenham," he told the club's official website.

"We need to switch on, put away negative energy and fight back. But if we are to beat Tottenham then we have to recover quickly.

"We have played well recently, defended well and that's what we must focus on. We must remember those games, try to move on from this performance and focus on beating Tottenham. We have to analyse quickly and get players back quickly."

Arsenal have won their last five league outings.
