Ray Parlour: Petr Cech would "be a terrific signing" for Arsenal

Ray Parlour identifies Chelsea's out-of-favour goalkeeper Petr Cech as the ideal summer signing for Arsenal.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has told Sports Mole that Petr Cech would be the man to end the club's goalkeeping problems.

Wojciech Szczesny started the season as Arsene Wenger's number one, but a string of mistakes saw the Pole dropped in favour of summer signing David Ospina.

However, there have been suggestions that Wenger is still eager to bolster his custodian options even further and Parlour believes that Cech, who is currently out of favour at London rivals Chelsea, would be the ideal addition.

"He'd be a terrific signing and provide so much experience. He's got some stern competition at Chelsea. He's played in some big, big games and a move across London would be great. Whether Chelsea would let him go, I don't know," said the 42-year-old.

"He's still a young goalkeeper really and has plenty of years ahead of him. Someone like Petr Cech would be a great signing for Arsenal."

Thirty-two-year-old Cech, who is behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, has been limited to just 14 appearances in all competitions this term.

Ray Parlour caught a game with London and South East finalist, Jake Goodall, at the Carlsberg Bar in Leicester Square to help him prepare for Boot Camp in the People's Pundit, championed by Carlsberg – the official beer of the Premier League.
