Aubameyang out to break Henry goalscoring record

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is aiming to break Thierry Henry's record of scoring 50 goals in the fewest matches for the Gunners as they face Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Since joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, Aubameyang has established himself as a key figure at the Emirates, and has registered 17 Premier League goals so far this season.

The 30-year-old currently finds himself second behind Jamie Vardy in the race for the golden boot following the Englishman's brace in Leicester City's 4-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.

Should Aubameyang find the net against Pep Guardiola's side at the Etihad on Wednesday evening, he will have hit the 50-goal mark for Mikel Arteta's side in 76 Premier League appearances. All-time leading scorer Thierry Henry took 83 matches to reach that milestone, which is the Gunners' current record.

Despite often being deployed as a winger to accommodate Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah this season, Aubameyang has remained Arsenal's primary goal threat, although his contract at the Emirates is set to expire next summer with no renewal currently in sight.

The stats do not lie heavily in favour of the Gabon international, however, as he has failed to find the back of the net in four games against the current Premier League champions.

Aubameyang has netted 61 times in 96 appearances for Arsenal, claiming last season's golden boot alongside Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
