Arsenal bidding to equal 48-year-old winning run against Chelsea

Arsenal will be out to equal a winning feat that they have not achieved for 48 years when they meet Chelsea in Sunday's Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel Arteta has enjoyed a strong set of results against the Blues away from home since taking the reins at Arsenal, winning two and drawing one of his three Premier League trips to Stamford Bridge as a manager.

In 2020-21, an Emile Smith Rowe goal gave Arsenal all three points on Chelsea's turf, and the Hale End graduate scored alongside Eddie Nketiah (2) and Bukayo Saka in a 4-2 win last term.

Should the Gunners prevail against Graham Potter's side this time around, it will mark the first time in 48 years that they have beaten Chelsea three times in a row away from home in the top flight.

Not since 1974 have Arsenal managed to do so, and the Gunners could also set a new club record in London derbies, having beaten Brentford and Crystal Palace away from home without conceding.

If Arteta's side win with a clean sheet here, they will have triumphed in three successive Premier League London derbies away from home without conceding for the very first time.

Arsenal sit five places and 10 points better off than Chelsea in the Premier League table, but Manchester City could knock them off top spot with victory over Fulham on Saturday.
