Carlo Ancelotti believes that English football is "not well" and the Italian sides are now favourites to qualify in the Champions League.

Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that English football is "not very well" after both Manchester sides dropped out of the Champions League.

The former AC Milan manager also said that he believes Arsenal and Chelsea will struggle against their Italian opposition in the last 16.

"They are balanced matches with the Italians as favourites," said Ancelotti.

"Italian football has made steps forward and after the elimination of City and United, English football is not very well.

"Napoli can play Chelsea as equals. Napoli have already had a little difficult period, but it seems they're getting back on track. I am a Milan fan, so I find it hard to be rational. But they are superior to Arsenal. They have great players."

Ancelotti was sacked by Chelsea at the end of last season.
